MEET THE MAKER

Chaoslings is the independent art studio of Leland Puryear, where original gothic fantasy sculptures evolve through fabrication, painting, weathering and mixed-media hand finishing.

What starts as an idea rarely ends exactly where I expected—and that's usually where the interesting part begins.

HOW THE STANGE
TAKES SHAPE

Every Chaosling begins as an idea and evolves through a mix of digital fabrication, traditional art techniques and hands-on experimentation. The process is part planning, part instinct—and rarely ends exactly where it started.

1 - THE IDEA

Every Chaosling begins as an original concept, shaped by strange characters, gothic fantasy and whatever happens to be growing in my head.

2 - THE FORM

The design becomes physical through digital fabrication and 3D printing, creating the raw form that everything else builds upon.

3 - THE TRANSFORMATION

Paint, washes, dry brushing and weathering begin changing the raw form into something with its own character and history.

4 - THE DETAILS

Fabric, leather, botanicals, metal, living plants and illumination are added as the piece evolves—no two finished relics exactly alike.

WHY CHAOSLINGS?

I’ve always been drawn to the strange, the beautiful and the slightly broken—the things that feel more interesting because they aren’t perfect.

Chaoslings grew from that instinct. I create characters that feel like they’ve wandered out of some forgotten garden or half-remembered story: ghosts, creatures, dragons and botanical oddities with a little darkness, a little humor and plenty of personality.

I don’t begin with a rigid plan for how every piece should end. I let the work evolve as I make it. A print might ask for paint, torn fabric, dried flowers, leather, metal, a living plant or a light glowing somewhere it probably shouldn’t.

That unpredictability is part of the art—and part of why no two finished Chaoslings ever feel quite the same.

THE MAKER BEHIND
THE STRANGE

I’m Leland Puryear, the artist and maker behind Chaoslings.

I work across digital design, sculpture, painting and mixed media, combining newer fabrication tools with hands-on finishing techniques to create work that lives somewhere between gothic fantasy, botanical curiosity and collectible art.

Chaoslings is an independent studio, which means the person designing the work is also the person printing it, painting it, adding the strange little details, photographing it, packing it and probably arguing with it somewhere along the way.

Every piece that leaves the studio has passed through my hands from beginning to end, and has a piece of my heart.
